Search Engine Positioning

So now what? You have commissioned a site, it has been built and uploaded to the web: now it needs to be visible. In internet terms, visible means coming up near the top in search engine rankings. Most search engine users don't look further than the first 20 or 30 results from any search; so you need to be up there to attract visitors. Achieving this is both an art and a science - we will work with you to get your site moving up the ratings.

Different search engines work in different ways, and your site needs to be optimised if it is going to get a good ranking Achieving a good position is one thing, maintaining it is another - needing constant monitoring and updating. There are a number of things you should do:

Ensure the content of your site is relevant with respect to the image you are trying to convey.

Select your search keywords carefully - these need to be relevant to the content of your site, and need to be words that internet users are searching for.

Make sure keywords appear in the text body near the top of your home page

Have relevant links to and from your site.

Equally, there are some things to avoid:

Too much reliance on graphics, frames and flash-type technology can obscure your site from search engines.

Be wary of companies offering "guaranteed" top-10 positioning; these often rely on obscure combinations of keywords that would not be used in reality.

Avoid mass-submission programmes - some search engines will reject these as spam and possibly blacklist your site.
